The Fragrant Memory Kit gives carers a ready-to-run sensory activity that draws out personal stories through familiar scents. It works well as an one-to-one session or with a small group of people living with dementia, and suits residential and community care settings. Place a few drops of fragrance onto a cotton wool ball, put it inside a smelling pot, and invite participants to smell and respond. Two spare pots let you add your own items such as lemon peel, rose petals, or coffee grounds to personalise the session. Extra ideas are included, such as pairing a peppermint fragrance with sticks of rock, sand, a bucket and spade, and images of donkey rides.

- Guided scent session: Place a few drops of one fragrance in a smelling pot and pass it around a small group. Use the prompt card questions to open up conversation about where that scent takes each person.
