This mosaic artwork kit is a hands-on conversation craft kit for seniors that works particularly well in one-to-one sessions. Participants glue small colourful chipboard squares onto pattern sheets to build up finished mosaic pictures, with the square colours drawn from 49 real rocks and minerals. The mineral theme gives the activity a natural talking point beyond the making itself.
How it can be used
Each of the four pattern sheets can be photocopied as many times as needed, so the kit supports repeated use across multiple residents or sessions. The 2cm chipboard squares are a manageable size for seated arts and craft activities, and the included mineral information poster can prompt conversation before or during the session.

- One-to-one session starter: Show the mineral information poster before beginning and ask the resident if they recognise any of the rocks or minerals — this can open conversation about geology, travel, or past work experience.
- Pattern choice: Offer the resident a choice of the four pattern sheets (butterfly, lizard, flower, or fish) to give them a sense of ownership over the activity.
- Colour sorting warm-up: Before gluing, sort the chipboard squares into colour groups. This adds a gentle preparatory step and extends the activity time.
- Display and share: Once complete, display finished mosaics in a communal area and use them as a prompt for group conversation about the mineral theme.
